Hold the Toys, Please!

I love Craigslist... there's so many great things listed for sale (mostly used and low cost) just waiting for a home.  Yesterday, I showed the table and chair set deal I brought home and today I have one more reason to love Craigslist.... I bought Ikea's Expedit bookcase in white (the large one -- five rows, five columns) for $50!  Just 50 bucks (it retails for about $200 in the store)!!!

I've been searching for a large bookcase (you can see my playroom wish-list here) that will contend with a 11ft wide and 10ft tall blank wall in our playroom.  I wanted a bookcase that would be in proportion with the wall size and designed in a way to hold all the kid's toys, without spending a fortune.

The bookcase looks great against the wall, the $50 price fit the budget, and the design seems to help things look organized.  Reread that.... seems to help things look organized!  The cubbies on this particular bookcase really only allow room for one, maybe two, toys.  I think this really keeps the shelf from looking cluttered and the kids can immediately find what they're looking for (instead of digging through a toy box).

This room is still a work in progress.... we started by painting the walls, replacing the carpet and removing the french doors, all seen here.  Info about the chalkboard wall was posted here and adding the activity table is here.  Since the basics in room were done, it was time to bring in the shelving to hold the toys (and clean up the mess)... enter the Expedit bookcase...

The playroom still has a ways to go to completion, but the bookcase is a start to bringing this room together.... a perfect fit!!!
