The guest room is ready (for now)... my parents are the firsts guests and we couldn't be more excited for their visit. It'll be like a mini-vacation for all of us, and maybe while the grandparents are here and entertaining the kids for a bit, I can sneak away and work on a few projects.... like:
Hang the Ikea Ottava light fixture above the kitchen sink.
Find the perfect place and hang this precious light fixture, like it was here in our Virginia entry way.
Update the look of the ottoman in the mini-mudroom.... at first I thought I'd recover it with a black and white ticking stripe fabric, but then I pulled out a few other fabrics from my stash (from left to right - Ticking Back, Traditions Black & White, Solid Bristol, Tile Print and the light green on top was purchased at Printer's Alley -- wish I could remember the name). Decisions, decisions...
And, finally maybe get a head start on painting the chairs around the kitchen table, similar to my inspiration here...
Hmmm....
I think that's a good list of work while they're visiting... in between visiting alligators at Brazos Bend State Park (this is first on the kids list, NOT mine), eating Berri-Pop frozen yogurt (that stuff is gooo-oood), fishing in the nearby lakes (hopefully I will not see an alligator), going to the Houston Zoo, touring Blue Bell's ice cream factory, making homemade pizza, a little yee-hawin' at a rodeo and of course relaxing in the evenings and catching up with my parents after we've ran around with three preschoolers all day.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your week and maybe sneak in a few decorating projects!!!
Hey =)
ReplyDeleteLike you I thought it was a great idea to hang the Ottava light fixture above my kitchen sink. I bought the light fixture a few months ago but never gotten around to installing it.
Now that I had time I noticed it needs to come up pretty high so I (and my tall husband) don't stare right into, and be blinded by the light bulb when doing stuff at the sink.
So I ended up not doing ti because it'll end up looking something like this: (not my photo btw) http://www.flickr.com/photos/10557450@N04/2636083751/in/photostream/
You only really see the bottom well and loose the effect of the cool lamp. And it just looked silly with such a short wire =(
I found this blog you might find interesting too: http://theletteredcottage.net/reading-room-ceiling-re-do-part-2
I think her withe cover came out cool.
Anyway I am curious if you ever hung the lamp and if so how it looks.
Thanks for linking to a great post by TLC. I loved how they used twine to cover the cord and then swooped the fixture over just a few inches.... creative!!!
ReplyDeleteI did hang the fixture above my kitchen sink here... my ceiling is 10 feet, so I (and my 6' 3" husband) don't have the issue of staring right at the light while washing dishes. I agree, I wouldn't hang it if I had to stare directly at a light bulb.... too annoying. Maybe there's another area in your house to hang it? I also hung one in my son's bedroom here. It's such a cute fixture for a really great price!!!
The lamp really came out looking great. Maybe I'll retry my plan for using it after all. I'll wait till I am done painting etc my kitchen first though...
ReplyDeleteLove your decor. You have a great sense of style!
Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI’m impressed, I must say. Really rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.
