Welcome Stripes

I've been craving stripes in my house, remember here?  Well, as of this week I have stripes!!!  They're in the entry way....

Entry Way

And no I do not have the patience to paint those stripes, nor the budget for wallpaper.... that is tape!  It's Japanese Washi Tape from Cute Tape and I love it.  It's easy to put on and easy to take off.... there's absolutely no mess (I'm not paid for this..... there's really NO mess).  I could remove it tomorrow and my wall would be just as it was before I added the tape.  Here was my process....

I measured how far apart I wanted the stripes and made a tiny mark on the wall, then pointed my laser level at the wall, stretched out the tape and pressed it against the wall....

Once all the stripes (tape) were on the wall, I used an exacto knife to trim the edges on the top and bottom for a clean cut....

In the end, I have a wall of stripes that cost me less than $30 (and definitely doesn't look like tape)!!!

I placed a few books, a lamp recovered with fabric (Gazebo Cloud from Tonic Living) and a few frames, including the key art I gave to the husband for Valentine's Day, all on the blue desk (that was originally in this room, then moved to this room).

And now for the best part..... the before and after.  Here's a picture of the entry way when we purchased the house.....

Such an easy (and inexpensive) way to update a wall!  So, how have you used Washi Tape?  Any projects planned?

  1. Oh my goodness, this is just FAB. I love the boldness of the stripes and I would never have thought to use tape in this way.

I have been dying to use gold in my home now for a while and this is exactly why - I love the way it pops against the blue of the desk. Seriously, well done, this is wonderful...

  4. I think that's why I love it sooo much too.... the stripes are non-committal (and it didn't take much time to add or a fortune out of pocket). Gotta love that washi tape... so many uses!

  8. How clever! I have textured walls too and thought I didn't have any decorating options.

I hope you will add your lovely metamorphosis to my Fall in Love linky party on Wednesday.

Until then, stop by and see the under $20 makeover I gave an ugly brass light fixture.

    Happy Monday!

  10. Love what you have done here! What is the new color on the desk? Will you please pass the brand and color along? Thanks!

  11. Funny you should ask.... I actually mixed a few paints I had to get that desk color (Templeton Gray from Benjamin Moore and a cobalt blue color- I can't remember the the name or brand). The result resembles something similar to Martha Stewart's Blue Suede. Hope that helps :)
